Fun Fact
Dahlia tubers and petals are edible for people (flavor varies from cucumber-y to lightly nutty). If you choose to taste, harvest from plants grown without systemic pesticides and wash well. (Not recommended for pets.)
Planting & Growing Guide
Dahlias thrive in full sun and well-draining soil.
-
When to plant: After all danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed.
-
Depth & spacing: Plant tuber 4–6″ deep, eye up, spaced 12–18″ apart (wider for larger types).
-
Water: Water in lightly at planting; begin regular deep watering once sprouts are 4–6″ tall. Keep soil moist, not soggy.
-
Pinch: When plants reach ~12″ tall, pinch the growing tip to encourage bushy plants and more blooms.
-
Support: Stake or corral—especially for taller or dinnerplate surprises.
-
Deadhead: Remove spent blooms to extend the show through frost.
-
Lift & store (cold zones): After first frost blackens foliage, lift tubers, cure in a dry spot, and store cool and dry for replanting next season.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
Dahlia Tubers need to store in a cool and dark place. I use water misted vermiculite. Please note that I am in zone 11 and your planting zone may likely need a completely different method of storage. Our tubers are shipped with the intention of the customer planting right away. Please look up proper dahlia planting for your zone.
