Unlabeled Dahlia Tuber — Kula Surprise Mix

Love a good garden surprise? Our Kula Surprise Mix is pure delight: a single, farm-grown dahlia tuber chosen from the same varieties we treasure in our fields. Think peachy creams, blushes, bronzes, berries, whites, moody darks—plus an array of forms from ball and formal decorative to waterlily and cactus. Plant, wait, and watch the magic unfold. The attached photos show the kind of beauty we grow here—your bloom will be one of these styles of loveliness, but the exact variety will be a surprise.

What You’ll Get

  • One (1) unlabeled dahlia tuber — not a clump

  • Farm-grown on our fields (we are not resellers)

  • Assorted palette & forms — color, form, and pattern are a surprise

  • Bloom Size: typically 3–6″ (with occasional petite or dinnerplate wildcards)

  • Height: ~3–6 ft depending on what you draw

  • Bloom Window: mid to late season (some earlier starters possible)

  • Cut-Flower Ready: most selections produce long, usable stems

Please note: Because these are unlabeled, we cannot take requests or guarantee a specific variety. Photos are examples of our fields. This listing is for one singular tuber.

Why You’ll Love It

Perfect if you adore everything we grow and want a little mystery in your garden. The Kula Surprise Mix is an easy “yes” for filling a bed, testing new colors, or gifting an adventurous gardener.

Fun Fact

Dahlia tubers and petals are edible for people (flavor varies from cucumber-y to lightly nutty). If you choose to taste, harvest from plants grown without systemic pesticides and wash well. (Not recommended for pets.)

Planting & Growing Guide

Dahlias thrive in full sun and well-draining soil.

  • When to plant: After all danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed.

  • Depth & spacing: Plant tuber 4–6″ deep, eye up, spaced 12–18″ apart (wider for larger types).

  • Water: Water in lightly at planting; begin regular deep watering once sprouts are 4–6″ tall. Keep soil moist, not soggy.

  • Pinch: When plants reach ~12″ tall, pinch the growing tip to encourage bushy plants and more blooms.

  • Support: Stake or corral—especially for taller or dinnerplate surprises.

  • Deadhead: Remove spent blooms to extend the show through frost.

  • Lift & store (cold zones): After first frost blackens foliage, lift tubers, cure in a dry spot, and store cool and dry for replanting next season.

Materials

Single viable root of which to propagate a dahlia from the parent plant.

Shipping & Returns

Please allow two business days to prepare for shipping. The tuber is not packed in long term storage material, please ensure you are prepared to plant or store the tubers properly. It is the customers responsibility to care for the tuber after it arrives.

Dimensions

Dahlia tubers come in all shapes and sizes. Please note a certain shape or size does not produce a better or worse quality plant. Ugly tubers make beautiful plants!

Care Instructions

Dahlia Tubers need to store in a cool and dark place. I use water misted vermiculite. Please note that I am in zone 11 and your planting zone may likely need a completely different method of storage. Our tubers are shipped with the intention of the customer planting right away. Please look up proper dahlia planting for your zone.
