Planting & Growing Guide
Dahlias thrive in full sun and well-draining soil. Plant tubers once the danger of frost has passed, about 4–6" deep and spaced 12–18" apart, depending on variety size. Pinch young plants at ~12" tall to encourage bushy growth and more blooms. Provide sturdy support—‘Bloomquist Alan’ can reach up to 5.5 ft and benefits from staking. Water consistently (but avoid soggy soil), and deadhead regularly to keep blooms coming strong. In cooler climates, lift tubers after frost, cure them in a dry place, and store in a cool, dry spot for replanting next season.
